Industrial Trades Center

IBI proudly partnered with the Texas City ISD on the architecture and interior design of the Industrial Trades Center. Its continuing education program provides a basis for skilled labour in specialty trade industries with high demand.

200 Students
2017 Completed

The history of this project started with the District purchasing the highly visible 17-acre site previously owned by First Baptist Church, located in close proximity to Texas City High School. Texas City ISD partners with local business and industry leaders to train next generation students at the Industrial Trades Center in programs offering skilled labor expertise for entry-level jobs in their respective industry workforce.

IBI designed Phase 1 of this 31,770 sq. ft. state-of-the-art building that focused on the interior curriculum space for the following academies:

  • welding
  • pipe
  • machinist
  • instrumentation
  • electrical
  • construction trades
  • maritime

The entry plaza leads up to the main entrance which showcases exposed steel, wood deck, stone and brick accents and shaded glass walls to let all visitors experience the building structure for educational purposes. All programs feature a lab with its own classroom setup and advanced instructional live training simulators. Influential industry companies donated brand new, real-world equipment for student use and a service yard was designed adjacent to the workforce spaces to allow students to process materials in covered work areas outside. The accessibility of heavy equipment simulators to better prepare students allows the District to offer OSHA, NCCER and AWS certifications.

Phase 2 includes plans for an 8,000 sq. ft. automotive technology building expansion, providing space for car storage and workforce areas.
